Allergy
Allergies are an abnormal response of the immune system to substances that generally cause no reaction in most people. These substances can trigger wheezing, sneezing, itching and coughing. Allergies are a very common issue, affecting at least 20% of Americans. Allergies are not only aggravating, but many have been linked to a variety of common and serious chronic respiratory illnesses, like sinusitis and asthma. With proper management and patient education, allergic diseases can be controlled, and people with allergies can lead normal and productive lives.
Asthma
Asthma is a chronic lung disease that inflames and narrows the airways. Asthma causes recurring periods of chest tightness, wheezing, coughing and shortness of breath. Asthma affects people of all ages, but it most often starts during childhood. In the United States, more than 25 million people are known to have asthma. About 7 million them are children. With today's knowledge and treatments, most people who have asthma are able to manage the disease. They have few, if any, symptoms. They can live normal, active lives and sleep through the night without interruption from asthma.
Sinus
The sinuses are air-filled pockets on both sides of the nasal cavity. They are connected to your nasal passages by small tubes that permit air to flow from the nose into the sinuses and allow drainage of mucous from each sinus into the nose. Sinuses are susceptible to infection. Sinusitis is inflammation of a sinus caused by a bacterial infection that can follow a viral infection. At Advanced Allergy, Asthma and Sinus Care, we commonly treat sinus infections, or sinusitis, which is a common condition that refers to inflammation of the sinuses and nasal passages.
