Is There a Cure for Airborne Allergies?

Does subcutaneous immunotherapy make you non-allergic?

Immunotherapy using allergy injections or allergy shots can cure your allergies if you adhere to the treatment prescribed. Patients who are evaluated in our offices at Advanced Allergy Asthma and Sinus Care have suffered from multiple allergy symptoms for many years and have tried multiple over the counter oral antihistamines including Claritin, Zyrtec, Allegra and even Xyzal. In addition, many people use over the counter topical steroidal nasal sprays. These should be used with caution in patients with eye disease such as cataract, glaucoma or macular degenreative disease (which many older people have).

Subcutaneous immunotherapy (SCIT) is a safe and well tolerated procedure for treatment of allergic rhinitis, allergic conjunctivitis, recurrent sinusitis and asthma.

At our allergy offices located in Jupiter (Abacoa) and Palm City, we offer allergy shots five days a week to help patients adhere to their treatment and to complete their individualized desensitization. Studies have shown that patients who use oral antihistamines frequently will build tolerance and their allergy medications become ineffective so they will look for non medicinal allergy treatment.

In addition, oral antihistamines and nasal sprays, whether steroidal or antihistamine nasal sprays, will relieve the allergy symptoms temporarily and will not make the patient non-allergic.

High adherence to subcutaneous immunotherapy depends on the close relationship between the allergist and the patient and on careful follow-ups.

At Advanced Allergy Asthma and Sinus Care in Jupiter and Palm City, we evaluate patients for any allergies (with skin testing) and then prepare specific individualized serum that can desensitize them and cure their allergies.

We serve patients in West Palm Beach, Palm Beach Gardens, Jupiter, Tequesta, Hobe Sound, Stuart, Palm City, Jensen Beach, Port St. Lucie, Vero Beach and beyond.
